The role

Chief Executive
£135k - £144k inc.

This role offers an experienced and talented public servant a fantastic opportunity to take the lead role in an ambitious local authority with a proven track record of making things happen.

You’ll ensure that elected members receive thorough, accurate and insightful advice on strategies and initiatives and that the organisation strives to pursue continuous improvement and deliver the best value for money to our customers. Within the organisation you’ll be a committed advocate for effective performance management, ensuring colleagues have clear objectives to work towards and that this clarity of purpose, supported by professional development supports a highly motivated and focused workforce. And you’ll understand the importance of the outward facing role of a Chief Executive – building positive relationships with local businesses and ensuring community engagement remains central to organisational decision-making.

One of the immediate priorities for whoever takes on this role will be in shaping how the council adapts to the post-Covid 19 working environment, exploring new ways of working and evaluating how to get the best from technology. But you will also play a lead role in the council’s strategic response to the considerable social and economic changes that this represents: re-evaluating priorities and resource, to best align with the immediate and longer term needs of our community.

You’ll offer a blend of strategic and operational management experience, ensuring that we balance long-term ambitions successfully with high standards of service delivery and customer service. It’s important that you can quickly establish credibility with colleagues, elected members and partner organisations and that you can influence and negotiate at the highest level and offer colleagues clear and effective leadership and direction. We’ll want to see evidence of leading improvement in previous roles, and examples from your career of identifying and steering commercially successful initiatives will be of particular interest.
